Lucy Worsley might have the best job in the world. She is an English historian, TV personality, and chief curator of the Historic Royal Palaces (which include the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, and other palaces that Americans have collective envy over). But also, Worsley is living every girl’s dream, because she loves to dress up in period costumes and post pictures of herself on Twitter. Except she has access to the best props in the world.
Worsley makes history approachable and fun. What most impresses me, though, is the value she places on the experiences of the everyday person. Take her documentary History of the Home, in which she discusses the importance of the bathroom, and the role living rooms played in shaping people’s lives.
If you’re a mystery lover, check out A Very British Murder, in which she chronicles famous British crimes, and the rise of the murder mystery.
Next up for Worsley? A history of romance. Judging by her tweets, it promises to be hilarious and fascinating–like the woman herself. I’ll let you know when the documentary is available. In the meantime, enjoy the picture posted here; if you’ve ever read a historical romance, you’ll recognize the setup immediately!
Thank you for introducing us to Lucy Worsley. I too admire her dedication and delight in her quirkiness. Can’t wait for her show on the history of Romance.
